About the Jackson Concert Series

The Jackson Concert series is funded by a trust left to Wesley United Methodist Church. Robert S. Jackson established this legacy as a memorial to his wife Elizabeth and his parents Douglas and Alberta Jackson. Robert Jackson was a prominent Muscatine attorney.

Jackson's will specified that trust income be used by Wesley United Methodist Church to support their music program and provide a series of Jackson Concerts free to the general public.

Tickets become available approximately three weeks prior to each concert. These may be obtained without charge at the church office during regular business hours or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

+ Felix Hell - Organist
7:30 pm
April 17

Born in Frankenthal/Pfalz, Germany in 1985, Felix Hell took his first piano lesson at the age of seven, after having heard the “C-Major Prelude, WTK-I”, of J.S. Bach. He played it from memory after a few days listening to it and observing the piano player. Just eight months later, in September of 1993, he took his first organ lesson. In the spring of 1994, Felix participated in the Federal German competition for young musicians and received two First Prizes in organ playing. On Easter 1994, just eight years old, he was on duty in his first service as a liturgical organist, playing the organ at a Roman Catholic High Mass.

In 1999, at the age of 14, Felix enrolled at the Juilliard School, New York, where he had been awarded a merit-based full tuition. In September of 2001 he was admitted under full tuition scholarship at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in May 2004 at the age of 18 and became the youngest organ major ever to graduate from Curtis. Felix is pursuing graduate studies under the guidance of Professor Donald Sutherland at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, where he received his Artist Diploma degree in May 2007.

From the very beginning he has maintained a very busy recital schedule. His first solo appearance dates back to March of 1994 and his first solo concert abroad was in August of 1994, when the soon to be nine-year old Felix performed in the Great Hall of the Saratov Conservatory, Russia.

Felix Hell has recorded seven critically acclaimed CDs and his music has been broadcast several times, including a 90 minute solo show on Minnesota Public Radio, as well as appearances on American and German TV stations.

We are pleased to welcome this amazing young organist to The Jackson Concert Series as we continue to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the dedication of our Cassavante-Freres pipe organ.

“My mission in life is to bring my music to as many people as I can, while I’m here, on this Earth.”

Artist/Composer Pavlo is a Canadian born Greek whose “Greek-flamenco guitar” sound has reached over 47 countries. He has sold over 500,000 albums worldwide, while spending a lifetime dedicated to music and the blending of sounds from Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Mediterranean.

Pavlo grew up influenced by his father’s work ethic and inspired by his dedication to persevere and to succeed. At ten years of age, Pavlo began to play the guitar. At thirteen, he composed his first song, and soon it became evident that the boy was gifted. While other parents would encourage a profession that might offer more security, Pavlo’s father would offer the words that would inspire Pavlo’s career: “Have the courage to do what you love, and the drive to do it well.”

Pavlo is a composer, a musician, a guitarist and recording artist. He composes in a style of music best described as “Mediterranean Music”.  A music that combines influences of Flamenco, Latin, Classical and Mediterranean guitar mixed together with the Greek Bouzouki.

With an ever-increasing popularity, Pavlo continues to draw and play for new audiences. Performing at the rate of 150 shows per year, he is on a mission doing what he loves and doing it well.

Mark your calendars now for an exciting evening featuring the high-energy performance of Pavlo!
